emotional intelligence makes the difference

Career success often seems elusive when we're busy pounding the  wheel of performance measures and targets. But there is a tool that can assist to make the journey easier and help to make more sense.

Have you noticed that it is not really the people with the degrees that rise to the top? 

Rather it's those who have charisma, can manage themselves or others well or manage stress effectively who take the great leaps.

So what secret is it that these people have?  It's emotional intelligence (EQi). Good emotional intelligence is literally the drop in the pond that has the ripple effect - shifting hard fruitless labour into a more fluid and less effortful action.

What is EQi?

EQi is a range of skills that when mastered can set you apart from the crowd. The good news is that unlike IQ, emotional intelligence can be learned. The steps are:
  1. Recognising that the skill set exists
  2. Taking an honest inventory of your skills'
  3. Taking action to build and refine your skills
The 5 key areas are: Stress Management, Interpersonal Skills, Intrapersonal Skills, Adaptability and General Mood. Over the nest couple of weeks we'll look at each of the areas and list ways to enhance your EQi in those areas. The first one will be INTERPERSONAL SKILLS.
